The federally funded Original Medicare program includes both Medicare Part A and Part B. There are alternatives to Medicare provided by the government, and these plans are sold by private insurance companies. Medicare Advantage plans, also known as Medicare Part C, provide at least the same amount of coverage as Part A and Part B, but many of these plans also feature additional benefits such as vision, dental or hearing coverage. If a Medicare Advantage plan offers prescription drug coverage, it is known as a Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug (MAPD) plan, and it provides all of your coverage through a single plan.
